BCL secure acquittal of Adam Bailey on wounding with intent and dangerous driving charges
On 7 December 2009, BCL Burton Copeland secured the acquittal of client Adam Bailey at Blackfriars Crown Court on charges of wounding with intent and dangerous driving. The charges arose following an incident on 19 September 2008 when Mr Bailey had been out celebrating his birthday with then fiancée Tulisa Contostavlos of hip-hop band N-Dubz and fellow band mate Dappy.
During the trial, the Crown alleged that Mr Bailey had returned to the scene of an earlier confrontation between a group of males and Dappy, with the specific intention of getting revenge on those that had confronted him. However, the Defence maintained that there was a clear case of mistaken identity surrounding the wounding allegation, and that Mr Bailey had been attacked by the group of males, resulting in his losing control of his vehicle.
After a trial lasting several days, the jury unanimously acquitted Mr Bailey on both counts after deliberating for just over four hours. Partner, Paul Morris, and Ellen Peart acted for Mr Bailey and this case further cements the team’s excellent results in cases involving self-defence.
