Rachel Hubbard has been a partner at BCL since 2002 and has specialised in criminal litigation since the start of her career in 1983. She has huge experience in serious, complex and high-profile crime.
She has extensive skill and experience in representing those detained in police stations and acting for individuals interviewed under caution by prosecution or enforcement agencies.
Rachel has successfully represented professionals, medical practitioners, lawyers, TV and radio corporations and companies, high-profile sportsmen, celebrities and musicians and is skilled in media and reputation-management.
She frequently represents those under investigation or facing trial in relation to sexual offences, domestic violence, drugs, various degrees of assault, murder, manslaughter and public order offences. She also has considerable experience of representing professionals in relation to serious fraud, corruption and health and safety matters. Rachel also advises on mutual legal assistance and in respect of restraint and confiscation orders.
Within the field of general crime work, her particular specialisation is sexual offences, domestic violence and assault-related offences with a particular interest in forensic matters and medical defences.
Rachel is over 20 years post-qualified and also has experience of high profile complex fraud. In the past she has practised as an advocate in the Magistrates’ Court representing individuals charged with more minor matters and is a regular speaker on topical developments relating to criminal litigation.
She defends clients facing investigations and prosecutions brought by the Serious Fraud Office, HM Revenue & Customs and the Crown Prosecution Service. Rachel is the former Secretary of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors’ Association and in the past was a solicitor assessor on the Legal Services Commission’s Costs Appeal Committee. She is currently a member of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors’ Association, the Association of Women Solicitors, the Health & Safety Lawyers’ Association and the Association of London Welsh Lawyers.
