Brian Spiro speaks on LIBOR & FOREX at the IBA Transnational Crime Conference, Panama City

This year’s International Bar Association’s Annual Transnational Crime Conference was held in Panama City, between 11 and 13 May 2016.

As part of the conference, BCL partner, Brian Spiro, participated in a panel on “21st Century Financial Crime – Benchmark Rigging LIBOR, FOREX and Lessons Learned’.

With other speakers from Italy, Switzerland and the USA (including former regulators and prosecutors) the panel discussed the interaction between regulatory enforcement and criminal prosecution of benchmark rigging; with a particular focus on the recent LIBOR and FOREX affairs.

Brian is the immediate past Chair of the IBA’s Business Crime Committee and previously acted for one of the defendants acquitted of LIBOR manipulation by Southwark Crown Court in January 2016 and currently represents a former Barclays trader standing trial before the same court.
