Samuel McCann

Samuel came to BCL having previously practised as a self-employed barrister.  Samuel has experience in both prosecuting and defending criminal proceedings before the Crown Court and was regularly instructed in relation to novel and complex applications.  Samuel’s practice is specialised in defending those under investigation by the SFO, FCA, CMA and HMRC, and has represented directors of multiple listed companies in relation to high profile prosecutions and internal investigations.

Samuel has complementary experience outside of criminal practice, having previously appeared before the Insolvency and Companies Court in relation to the winding up of companies, as well as having represented the large credit hire companies in contractual disputes.  Samuel’s experience of civil proceedings informs his judgement as to the interaction between criminal and civil proceedings and provides Sam with a robust appreciation of the commercial realities that a criminal investigation or adverse tax finding may have.

Samuel graduated in 2013 with a first-class degree in Law from the University of Exeter, whereafter he obtained an LLM in International and Comparative Public Law with distinction from the same institution.  Samuel was called to the Bar in 2015.
