Former Georgian Minister of Defence and aide to President Misha Saakashvili discharged in UK extradition proceedings

In his Judgment dated 21st March 2016 Senior District Judge Howard Riddle, the Chief Magistrate, in a comprehensive 31 page analysis discharged DAVIT KEZERASHVILI on both ‘extraneous consideration’ grounds under the Extradition Act 2003 as to political motivation behind prosecutions in Mr Kezerashvili’s home state of Georgia and also in relation to the risk of a trial untainted by political considerations. Mr Kezerashvili is one of the most senior overseas government officials whose extradition has been sought from the UK.

LondonCalling
