Robert Lawrie joins the BCL Partnership

1 October 2025

BCL Solicitors LLP is proud to announce that Robert Lawrie has become a Partner.

Robert brings over 20 years of experience in commercial and civil litigation, fraud claims, asset recovery, shareholder and trust disputes, arbitration and cross-border claims. He is a highly regarded specialist and is recommended in the leading directories. This appointment recognises his significant contribution since joining the firm.

Prior to joining BCL in 2023, Robert practised as a barrister in chambers and has held partnerships in City and Mayfair firms. His clients span corporates, high-net-worth individuals, directors, and regulated entities, often across multiple jurisdictions.

Since joining BCL and setting up and leading its successful Commercial Disputes team, he has acted in matters which include:

  • Acting in highly publicised proceedings brought by the Indian government against a prominent businessman accused of operating a $2bn fraud
  • Acting for an Ultra-High-Net-Worth sanctioned individual in a claim defending winding up proceedings of an Isle of Man investment structure worth $85m
  • Acting for UAE-based clients in their defence to the enforcement of a foreign judgment in a £120m fraud claim
  • Successfully defending a conspiracy claim against a prestigious sports betting brand, and recovering substantial costs following a two-week Commercial Court trial
  • Defending claims by special administrators arising out of €13m paid out of a FCA-registered company
  • Acting for international clients in multimillion pound arbitrations in the LCIA, ICC and other arbitration centres
  • Obtaining summary judgment dismissing a claim against a solicitor defending a £3m fraud claim
  • Pursuing enforcement (in UK and internationally) of costs orders made following failed private prosecutions
  • Multi-jurisdictional enforcement of arbitration awards for national governments, corporates and individuals

Richard Sallybanks, Managing Partner of BCL Solicitors, said:

“Rob brings exceptional intellect, incisive judgement and a client-first approach to his work. His outstanding track record here and internationally marks him out as a leading litigator, and this recognition reflects his personal contribution to the firm and our clients. We’re delighted to welcome him into the partnership.”

Robert’s position as a Partner underscores the success of the Commercial Disputes team which he established in 2023, and the firm’s strategic commitment to serving clients in increasingly complex high-stakes multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes, fraud claims, arbitration, asset recovery, and cross-border work.

The Commercial Disputes practice complements BCL’s longstanding market-leading expertise in business crime, tax investigations, and serious and general crime, ensuring a uniquely comprehensive service for clients facing both civil and criminal litigation risks.
