BCL Ranked Best Lawyers for Criminal and White-Collar Crime in Spear’s Indices 2025

1 May 2025

We are proud to announce that six of our lawyers have been listed in the Spear’s Magazine ranking of the best criminal lawyers for high-net-worth-individuals in the UK.

Congratulations to Ian Burton, Ellen Peart, and Richard Sallybanks, who have all been ‘Top Recommended’. And to Mark Haslam, Oliver Schneider-Sikorsky, and Harry Travers, who have all been ‘Recommended’.

The Spear’s Index of criminal lawyers is known as an invaluable resource for finding the best defence and prosecution solicitors specialising in high-value financial crime, fraud and regulatory wrongdoing.

Ellen Peart was given a special mention, with Spear’s highlighting that she is “frequently engaged by high-profile individuals from a variety of backgrounds – including business, politics, entertainment and the media – who prefer to stay out of the public eye while dealing with their prosecutions. She is adept at the reputation management aspect of criminal prosecutions and skilled in advising broadcasters pre- and post-production. Most of her work happens behind the scenes, she tells Spear’s: ‘The primary aim is to keep cases out of the public domain.’”
